This much is known: Free and open source software both as a product and production method is the future of software. Spearheading that future for regular users is OpenOffice.org which gives users throughout the world full access to Free/Open software while still allowing them to use proprietary software like Microsoft Office. But how will production and distribution methods change as FLOSS becomes more popular? This presentation outlines the logic of this future and suggests the ways in which local economies can best benefit from open-source collaboration and especially OpenOffice.org. Hint: it’s not just about cost.
