アジア・パシフィック・トラック

このところ、世界中の国々で、それぞれ自国のソフトウェア産業育成を踏まえた観点から、オープンソースソフトウェアの開発や活用が注目を集めつつあり、欧州ではドイツ、アジアでは中国・韓国等で、政府調達においてオープンソースの利用が奨励されたりしています。

日本でも、METI や IPA において、オープンソース利用の実証実験や基盤整備のための開発プロジェクトの推進など、さまざまな施策の展開が始まっています。

１１月１４日には、ここ大阪で、情報サービス産業協会（JISA）の主催により、「日中韓オープンソースビジネス懇談会」が開催され、３カ国の業界団体が一同に会して、それぞれの国におけるビジネスの状況や今後の展開についての情報交換および討論が行われることになっています。

そこで、今回の関西オープンソース+フリーウェア2003では、それにさきがけて１１月１日に「アジア・パシフィック・トラック」を設定し、これからのアジアにおけるオープンソース開発とその利用について、海外からのゲスト・スピーカのお話を交えつつ、草の根の視点からの展望を試みようと考えています。

ゲスト・スピーカとしては、中国から次のお２人：

北京から：

中国科学院ソフトウェア工学センター所長の Xichang Zhong (鐘錫昌) 先生。
Set-top Box や PDA 向けの Micro-OS: Hopen を開発して、中国市場でマイクロソフトを打倒したことで有名です。

上海から：

HyperSoft 上海の社長の Youliang Zhong (鐘友良）さん。
OSS を組み合わせた Web Application 開発環境を開発し、セミナーおよびコンサルテーションを精力的に展開中です。

そして、アメリカから：

OpenOffice.org の Community Manager である Louis Suarez-Potts さん。
現在、さまざまな OSS 開発プロジェクトの分析を手がけておられます。

内容: By disclosing a number of surveys, the report presents current conditions of open source software in Shanghai and China. Computer users such as government, educational organizations and big enterprises in Shanghai still hesitate to use open source software owing to several reasons. The main reasons may include no enough applications, lack maintenance support, and insufficient training. To promote OSS, we suggest a WIS development environment OpenWeb that is a set of OSS tools such as Eclipse, CVS, Struts, and JUnit. An outline of OpenWeb is simply introduced in the report as well.

内容: This paper looks at OpenOffice.org, the project, as a case study exemplifying the evolution of open-source software (OSS) development.
With well over 100,000 members producing what has become the most important open source product in the world, the OpenOffice.org project is changing not only our expectations of what open source is, but how it is to be continued. I focus on two processes: First, the structure of OpenOffice.org's relationship with Sun Microsystems, its sponsor, and second, on the revolutionary way in which OpenOffice.org has moved to include non-developer groups in the development and governing process.
